In Rifles in the Ardennes you step on your own into the tension of the Second World War. The forests of the Ardennes come to life, not through a large map, but through a stylised track that you can lay out differently every time. So you never play exactly the same battle twice. Designer Gottardo Zancani came up with this to surprise you again and again. The game works with small battles of five to ten units per side. You draw counters blind from a stack and roll dice. Together with handy tables, that creates an opponent that really seems to react. You never know exactly what the enemy is planning, and it is that fog of war that makes every move so exciting. You play with American, German and Russian units in eight different missions set between 1942 and 1944. With 43 unit counters, 42 markers, a map, three army sheets and a colour rulebook you have everything at hand for an evening full of strategy. It all fits in a handy zip bag, so you can take it anywhere. A tough solo adventure that grips you completely within two hours.
