A dark game with humour, risk and the eternal question: how much regret is your catch worth?
Deep Regrets is a strategic horror fishing game for 1 to 5 players aged 16 and up, with a playing time of about 30 minutes per player. In this atmospheric board game you choose anew every day: which fish do you sell, which do you proudly mount on the wall, which do you eat, and how much regret can you carry before your mind starts to crumble?
You fish at the start of the twentieth century in an alternative version of Europe, where classic folklore and cosmic horror come together. Think of The Shadow Over Innsmouth, The Fisherman, Hellboy, and the video game Dredge. The sea is no longer a safe place: grotesque creatures hang from your line, and every risk you take drags you deeper into the unknown.
Manage your energy, gather equipment, hunt bizarre deep sea creatures and try to return to the harbour in time to sell your catch. But beware: anyone who keeps fishing for too long may end up with a boat full of regret, a head full of madness, and an empty score at the end.
At the end of the week you add up your points for caught and mounted fish as well as the Fishbucks you have collected. But watch out: the player with the most regret must sacrifice their most valuable fish.

The solo mode is not built around hunting one giant fish; the designer says he was going for a calmer vibe. Players who want more of a challenge sometimes come up with their own variant featuring a big final beast, and of course you can try that at home too.
It really depends on your taste: players who enjoy calm fishing and collecting are very happy with it, while those looking for a tough challenge miss the tension because there is no opponent facing you. Some players have made their own automa, so solo play gets a bit more of a fight.
You can soften a weak roll: head back to port to reroll all your dice, drop to a lower depth so you are set up for a better catch later, or use equipment that lets you reroll. Players do experience this differently: some find it a pity when the dice keep working against them, while others say it hardly spoils the fun.
With four players the first game tends to run long: players mention around 2.5 to 3 hours, including the teach. After that it speeds up noticeably, usually one and a half to two hours. A tip from players: don't start a four-player game with four complete beginners.
