A bonsai is a living work of art. A tiny tree, cared for down to the smallest detail, that slowly grows under your hands. In Bonsai you become a true bonsai master and grow your own little tree, branch by branch, leaf by leaf. Whoever grows the finest one gets to show their work in the imperial gardens. Each turn you choose between rest and growth. When you rest, you take a card from the table, sometimes with a few tiles along with it. When you grow, you add tiles to your tree, as many as the symbols on your cards and your starting board allow. Bit by bit you build your bonsai and watch it become fuller and fuller. Reach a goal lying in the middle of the table and you get to choose: claim it now, or hold out for a harder goal further on? When the last card appears on the table, the game draws to a close and you count the points from every tile on your tree. Bonsai is lovely to play together, but you can also sit down with it on your own. Extra scenarios change the rules and goals, and if you dare, you can take on the challenge of the Emperor.
