Rifles in the Peninsula takes you back to the time of Napoleon. As the third title in the RIFLES series, this game is played completely solo. You lead a small group of soldiers, usually around five to ten units, across a board full of trees, buildings and hills. The terrain is laid out a little differently every game, so you face a new challenge each time. The enemy moves using cards and tables, so you never know exactly what is waiting for you behind the next hill. This instalment adds plenty that fits the battles of the period. Think of mounted troops, of formations and of the long time it takes to reload your musket or rifle. You will deal with different units such as grenadiers, voltigeurs, cuirassiers and dragoons, each with their own strengths. The campaign has had a thorough overhaul and now follows the great campaigns of the era. Along the Glory Track you build the career of your leader, your character in the game. The higher your rank, the more influence it has on what happens. Each year in the campaign consists of four to six moments. Such a moment can be a mission on the battlefield, but also an event away from the fighting, such as a barracks inspection or a drill in the field. And then there is the bonus: a small duelling game inspired by the film The Duelists. In it you stand face to face with your opponent and swing your sabre. From thundering muskets to rattling sabres, Rifles in the Peninsula lets you experience the battles of Napoleon's time up close.
