Heat: Pedal to the Metal brings something special to the table: a racing game that perfectly captures the feeling of speed and tension.
Every decision you make, from the cards you play to the gear you drive in, has an immediate impact. Thanks to clever hand management mechanics, this game is not just about speed, but also about strategy. It is widely praised as one of the best racing board games ever made, a real winner that surpasses both classic racers and modern hits.
The setting takes you to the Grand Prix of the 1960s. Each round you secretly choose cards from your hand to decide how far your car tears across the track. Your gear determines how many cards you may play: in second gear you play two cards, in third gear three, and so on. The total value of the cards shows how many spaces your car moves. Want to go faster? Shift into a higher gear and put your foot down hard on the accelerator. But watch out: the corners are coming, and blasting through them at full throttle can cost you dearly.
Corners force you to tame your speed. Every corner has a maximum speed you cannot exceed without penalty. Driving too fast? Then you gain heat in your deck. These 'dead' cards make your hand less flexible and can slow your strategy down a lot. The only way to get rid of this heat is to slow down and let your engine cool off. Balance between speed and control is essential: race smart, take risks where you can, but know when to ease off the gas. Heat is more than a racing game, it is an adrenaline rush in a box.
