America in the 19th century: you are a cattle rancher and you bring cattle from Texas to Kansas City. This earns you money and victory points. Needless to say, every time you arrive in Kansas City you want to have your most valuable cattle with you.
The "Great Western Trail" does not only ask you to keep your herd in good shape, but also to make smart use of the various buildings along the route. It can also be a good idea to hire the right staff: cowboys to improve your herd, craftsmen to construct your own buildings, or engineers for the important railway line.
If you manage your herd cleverly and navigate the chances and pitfalls of the Great Western Trail, you are sure to score the most victory points and win the game.
The second edition of Great Western Trail includes solo rules, which brings the player count to 1-4.
