It is early 1862 and the American Civil War is raging. A general nobody had heard of until then, U.S. Grant, leads the Union advance through western Tennessee. After capturing two river forts and taking the largest group of prisoners of war an American army had ever taken up to that point, Grant risks a bold push upstream along the Tennessee. But the Confederates under general A.S. Johnston strike back and put everything on the line in a fierce battle in the woods around Shiloh Church. In Grant: The Western Campaign of 1862 you command the entire Tennessee campaign. Playing the Union, you direct three armies and use both ships and ground troops to advance along the great rivers. You seize the key objectives Nashville and Corinth and try to take the fort at Island Number Ten to open up the Mississippi. As the Confederate player you block the attacks, pick the right moment for a counterattack yourself and preferably carry the fight into Kentucky. What makes this game special is the role of the water. Moving and fighting on the rivers is just as important as the battles on land, and that gives the whole campaign its own feel within Civil War history. Thanks to chit pulling, every game plays out differently and you feel the talents of Grant and Johnston at the table. Brace yourself for a long, gripping evening together.
