Formula

Numbers on the table, cards in your hand and a bit of mental arithmetic. Formula brings the whole family together around a game where you are secretly practising sums, while mostly just having fun. Exactly the kind of game you pick up for a moment and then keep playing for half an hour without noticing. Everyone starts with seven cards showing a number from 0 to 9. In the middle lie the symbols: plus, minus, times, divide and the equals sign. On your turn you play up to three cards and make a sum that adds up. Think of 3 + 5 = 8. The player after you may use your cards and make something new out of them, or turn the whole sum upside down. Whoever runs out of cards first wins. The nice thing is that children from 6 years old can join in and grown-ups have to stay sharp too. Sometimes you howl at a clever move, you grumble cheerfully when someone ruins your little plan, and that is how a quarter of an hour flies by. Here, doing sums becomes something you simply do together, at the table, with a smile.
