This is the Dutch-language edition. In Clever all players are busy the whole time. That makes it thrilling right up to the end!
• Tactical dice game.
• Lots of interaction.
• Exciting until the very end.
In Clever you roll dice for points. Each die has its own colour, which matches a category on your personal score sheet. The die you pick after rolling is filled in on your score sheet. Every colour category scores points in its own way. With the yellow die you cross off boxes in the yellow category, and you write the value of the orange die in the empty boxes of the orange category.
Each turn you roll three times, and after each roll you choose one die. Every die lower than the one you choose goes to the tray, so your opponents may use those dice during your turn.
The smarter you choose, the better your chances of creating chain reactions. A purple box you fill in can give a bonus that also lets you cross off a yellow box, which may trigger a second bonus that lets you tick off a blue box. By setting up the most clever combos this way, you reach the highest scores!
Clever is really a game for the upper years of primary school and for secondary school. It is a game that calls on maths skills, such as adding and multiplying numbers, and greater than, less than and equal to.
On top of that, you can practise a number of executive skills with this game. Think of planning/prioritising and flexibility.
In this game you have several options each turn for placing crosses or numbers. Because you work with bonuses, every choice affects what you note down. That makes the game very interesting for practising planning and prioritising. Encourage pupils to think out loud so their options become clear. That helps them decide what the best choice is.
Making a plan in advance makes little sense, though, because you do not know what you will roll or what will be rolled. That calls on your flexibility.
Tip for this game: use the lid as a dice tray :)
