Chile 73 takes you to a country in turmoil. The game breaks down into two phases. In the first phase you play in secret. Each turn stands for weeks or months of quiet moves behind the scenes. You secretly choose a faction that opposes president Salvador Allende, or one that supports him. In turn you recruit units for your cause or throw a spanner in the works for your opponents. You draw tokens from the Control Pool and so get the chance to quietly take charge of a civilian, paramilitary or military unit. You can also use action tokens to investigate, infiltrate, eliminate or block others. Then comes the moment when someone declares the coup. From that point on, everything changes. Quiet planning gives way to open battle. Now every turn counts not in months but in hours. You openly pick a side and fight for the important places on the map of Santiago, the capital of a Chile that is teetering. You manoeuvre, you join battle and you try to seize control. The beauty is that only at the end does it become clear who has really won. Everyone reveals their hidden goals and counts the points according to the plans they secretly cherished all along. For two to four players, ages twelve and up, and done in about an hour and a half. A game full of tension, bluffing and surprising twists to enjoy together at the table.
