Dark clouds hang over the city of Thebes. The old, blind king Oedipus has left the throne in disgrace and asked his two sons to rule together. But power changes people, and old quarrels flare up again. Before long one brother leads an army against the other, while the noble families of Thebes whisper that it is time for a new course. And then there is the Cadmea, the city's famous citadel, which badly needs repair. As if fate itself has turned against the rulers. In Thebai you step into the role of an influential leader from one of the noble families. While heroes spill each other's blood outside the gates, you rebuild the Cadmea, get trade going and pray to the gods of the city. Seven gates must be defended, and every choice you make weighs heavily. This is a meaty Eurogame for players who love depth. Together you decide which actions become available on the main board, while you carefully map out your own plans. Do you place your dice on your own board, or do you promote them on the shared board to become powerful council members for special points?
