Imagine you are spending a week on holiday in Edinburgh. Your name is Mary King and you visit the old alleys of Mary King's Close. Without knowing it, you attract the ghost of a distant ancestor, a woman with exactly the same name who lived centuries ago. That ghost is hungry and wants to live again, in your body. In The Mirroring of Mary King you play out this tense fight over one body with two players, with one playing the living Mary and the other the restless ghost. The heart of the game is Mary's mind, shown by twelve tiles in a four by three grid. You use cards to influence her thoughts. Tiles flip back and forth, because sometimes you control them and sometimes your opponent does. The week runs from Monday to Friday and each day you get one turn, with the ghost always going first. The longer it lasts, the more exhausted and desperate you both become. You win right away if you complete your image of Mary with the twelve tiles, or if your opponent runs out of cards. If neither of you manages that before Friday evening, then at the end you count who has kept the strongest hold on Mary. A real duel for two, full of tension and uncertain until the very last turn.
