A dark rumour rises from Mordor: the Eye of Sauron turns towards Middle-earth. The hour has come, the Fellowship is reunited and the heroes prepare for battle.
In The Lord of the Rings Duel for Middle Earth you have to pick a side. Play as the Fellowship of the Ring, stop the enemy from gaining ground and destroy the One Ring. Or play as Sauron, send your Nazgûl after Sam and Frodo and spread your hordes across enemy cities. The fate of Middle-earth is in your hands!
The game is played over 3 consecutive chapters that all unfold in the same way. On your turn you can improve your skills, collect treasures, expand your presence in Middle-earth, form alliances with peoples or continue the quest for the Ring.
You win the game immediately if you meet 1 of the 3 victory conditions:

There is no official solo mode in the box; the game is really made for two. Some players happily play both sides themselves, while others don't enjoy that at all because you already know your own plans. There is also a solo variant made by the community.
Players experience this differently. Some find it fairly cut-throat, since you mostly snatch the cards your opponent wanted and can knock out their troops on the Middle-earth map. Others say there is little real "take that", certainly less than they were used to in 7 Wonders Duel.
Players experience this differently. Some feel the variety is fine, since the cards come up in a different order every time, you decide how many to reveal, and there are the locations plus a board you can use in various ways. Others miss variation in the setup and compare it to chess, where the fun lies in reading your opponent. One player found the allies expansion a lovely addition here.
