In 1973, the Palace of Versailles hosted a fashion showdown that would make history. Five American designers took on five French greats such as Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Dior. The Americans won with their fresh and surprising show, and that moment changed the fashion world forever. In The Battle of Versailles you step into the shoes of one of the two teams and relive that exciting evening. You and your opponent play action cards to show off the most beautiful dresses, win the most famous celebrities over to your side and get in each other's way with a juicy piece of gossip. You also compete over who contributes most to the restoration of the palace. The two teams do not play the same way: the Frenchman has five actions per round, because his show went on endlessly. The American has only three, because his show was short and surprising. That difference makes every game different. The French team wants to protect its standing in the fashion world, while the American team wants to take that standing away. You fight over the most influential celebrities, the Americans want to make a splash with their innovative dresses and the French contribute as much as possible to the splendour of Versailles. A duel for two players in which no round is ever dull.
