In Portugal, some restaurants serve traditional Portuguese food alongside performances of fado, a music genre that dates back to the 1820s in Lisbon, Portugal.
Fado music is known for its mournful melodies and lyrics, often about the sea or the life of the poor, while being filled with a sense of acceptance, fate and melancholy.
People spend their whole evening in these restaurants, called Casa de Fado ("House of Fado"), dining and listening to the music, which speaks of "saudade", a Portuguese word meaning "longing, nostalgia, yearning, missing something or someone".
Usually there is no turning of the tables. Once you enter the restaurant, you stay until it closes.
In its traditional form, fado is played by a trio of musicians:
The Portuguese guitar has a unique sound and its chords are played differently from those on the classical guitar.
In the game House of Fado, players have to earn prestige by managing their restaurant, attracting customers and hiring and promoting fadistas and musicians. You will have to work hard to become the best fado house.
Managers move their staff members to different places to carry out a number of actions, using the same bump action as in The Gallerist.
This makes House of Fado a straightforward, quick game of 1 hour, but still very challenging as usual in the Lacerda style. After Bot Factory, this is the 2nd game designed together by Vital Lacerda and João Quintela Martins.
