In a world turned upside down, you fight for what is left. For What Remains: Blood on the Rails takes you to a future where civilisation has collapsed. You choose a side: the Echo, led by people with mysterious powers in their minds, or the Soldiers of Light, who believe humanity fell because of all that technology. Two groups, two beliefs, and a landscape full of rubble and ruins. You build the play area anew every time with separate tiles. That way a different ruined part of the city lies before you each game. You move your characters across the board, take on missions and try to score points by completing your goals. Fighting is part of it, but it is mostly about the objectives. If you prefer a short game, you can pick a single stand-alone battle. If you want more, you can link several battles together into a real campaign. In such a campaign your characters grow along with you: from beginner to veteran and finally to elite. You can play this game with two players, facing each other, or completely on your own. The playing time of about forty-five minutes makes it easy to sit down and dig in. Blood on the Rails stands on its own, but it also fits seamlessly with the other parts of the series. That way you build a bigger story step by step.
