Ireland, the fifth century. The Roman Empire is crumbling and a great task awaits on the green island. In Banish the Snakes: A Game of St. Patrick in Ireland you step into the shoes of Saint Patrick or one of the other saints. Together with your fellow players you travel across the land to convince the people of a new faith. It is a story about change, patience and cooperation, based on an old legend. This is a game you play together, not against each other. The board shows a map of Ireland with four provinces, and wooden tokens represent the people, druids, chieftains and kings. You try to gain influence over all of those groups and get your ideas accepted. But time keeps ticking. Each turn you flip a card, and it brings new challenges. How hard an event hits depends on the previous card, so no two games play out the same way. Meanwhile, Great Britain slips further and further into the hands of the barbarians. Will you make it in time? Then art, writing and history will flourish in Ireland while the rest of Europe sinks into chaos. If you fail, the last light goes out too. Playable with one to six people and good for about two hours of play. A tough, gripping challenge for anyone who loves history and puzzling together.
