It is 1871 and Canada is only four years old. The prime minister has a dream that seems almost impossible: a railway right across the whole country, from the east coast to the new province in the west. In between lies a huge, wild region. Whoever pulls this off will not only change the economy of the young country, but also decide who it is. Forests full of timber, fertile plains and the breathtaking Rocky Mountains are waiting to be opened up. In The Transcontinental you step into the shoes of a contractor helping to build that legendary railway. You send telegrams along a row of action spaces and so claim in advance what you want to do. After that you load and unload goods on a shared train that travels through the country. With those resources you build sawmills, farms, cities and even national parks, or you use them to extend the railway further. The powerful ally cards give your game that little bit extra. They feature real historical figures from Canada and provide strong, combined moves that you can only use once. Expect a solid evening together, in which planning and timing decide everything. Whether you play alone or with four, the journey along the rails stays just as gripping.
