It is the autumn of 1914. The Battle of the Marne has just ended and both armies are frantically looking for a way out. There is still open ground in the north, and both the German and the French commander want to outflank their opponent. This leads to a series of clashes that slowly push the fronts towards the French coast. In Race to the Sea 1914 you take charge of this desperate race, with the old textile town of Ypres as its dramatic end point. This was the last time the armies on the Western Front could truly move. One final chance at victory, driven by the idea of being 'home before the leaves fall'. But the fighting turned so bloody and indecisive that it created the very trenches that would lock the front in place for years. You and your opponent feel that tension with every move: push on or hold back, attack or dig in. The game uses the same system as Dead Reckoning. No dice, no complicated tables or long lists of modifiers. Instead, cards decide how battles end and who seizes the initiative. An events table adds variety and brings the atmosphere of the First World War fully to life. A game for two, where every decision carries real weight.
