Pick a Pen Crypten - you really do roll pens...well, pencils!

This is the Dutch-language edition. Pick-a-Pen: Crypten is a game from the Pick-a-Pen series by the renowned designer Reiner Knizia and comes with score sheets in 3 increasing difficulty levels. On score sheets 2 and 3 you will find pencil symbols that let you cancel a turn, plus bonuses for squares in 1 colour.
The Pick-a-Pen series is a new generation of innovative "Roll & Write" games, in which you really do roll pencils. This means that the same game material can support many different game mechanisms. But in every game, colouring in fields is at the heart of the play.

You try to decipher very complicated inscriptions in an ancient crypt

Complete as many rows and columns as you can in an ancient crypt, where some symbols even give you an extra turn! Each time, choose 1 of the rolled coloured pencils and colour in the symbol shown on the side facing up. Depending on the score sheet you choose, you earn points in different ways. Will you have the most points in the Pick a Pen Crypten maze at the end?

The starting player first rolls all the pencils, each of which has a different colour. Their sides show different symbols. These show which box you may colour in on your score sheet in that colour.

On your turn, you choose a pencil and colour in the matching symbol. You always have to move from left to right. If a row is full, you may colour in any symbol you like. And if you colour in a symbol with a bold outline in the right colour, you may colour in another symbol as a bonus. In this way you try to fill as many rows and columns as possible with the right colours. If you manage that, you may colour in bonus points on your sheet. The game ends as soon as one of the players has coloured in all of their boxes.
