Publisher: Genius Games
Step into the world of Gregor Mendel, the monk who laid the foundation for our knowledge of heredity. In Genotype: A Mendelian Genetics Game you are one of his assistants. Together with your fellow players you gather data about pea plants and try to work out which traits they pass on to their offspring. Think of the shape of the seed, the colour of the flower, the colour of the stem and how tall the plant grows. What you see in a plant comes from what is inside it. That interplay is exactly what this game is about. Each round you roll dice that represent growing plants. The roll determines which traits appear. Then players take turns choosing dice to complete their plant cards or to advance their research. By adjusting the genes of the parent plants, you increase the chance of rolling exactly what you need. Completing cards earns you points, and a good prediction also earns you nice bonuses. Every round has three phases: placing workers, choosing dice and buying upgrades. That way you gain more options, more workers and more room to grow. After five rounds, the player with the most points wins. A game about discovering together, puzzling and staying just that little bit ahead of each other.
