This is a renewed edition of this area control classic, including 2 new mini expansions. You are one of the Grandes, the high nobility of 15th century Spain, and you try to increase your power. That is why you send out your brave knights, the Caballeros, to conquer regions and grow your influence. By playing ever changing action cards as cleverly as possible, you try to thwart your opponents' strategies. Try to win the king over to your side and stay one step ahead of your opponents with intrigue. Will you win the battle for Spain and become El Grande?
In 1996 El Grande won 'Spiel des Jahres' and it has been played by fans all over the world ever since. 999 Games has refreshed the content of El Grande and also given it a new look. The game itself has stayed the same and has lost none of its tactical fun. This edition also contains 2 new mini expansions and extra action cards!

In El Grande you try to score the most points within 9 rounds and after 3 scoring rounds. Each player starts with their Grande and a few caballeros in a region in Spain. The King is also placed in a region.
Each round every player plays 1 power card from their hand, which determines 2 things: first, the order in which players may choose action cards from the display, and second, how many new caballeros they may take into their supply. When it is your turn, you choose one of the action cards that are still available.
Such a card shows an action you may perform and a number of caballeros you may move from your supply to the board. New caballeros must always be placed in regions bordering the King. If you do not want that, you may also throw new caballeros into the Castillo.
After every 3 rounds (and sometimes as the result of an action card) there is a scoring. The players with the most caballeros in a region score points there. The King and the Grandes can give bonus points.
The Castillo is a region of its own, and after it is scored the caballeros move to another region of your choice, which can change the situation on the board completely. If you have the most points after 9 rounds, you win the game!
This edition of El Grande contains 2 mini expansions and extra action cards to make the game even more variable and exciting. With the cards from these mini expansions there are, among other things, more tactical options with the King, or players can change the value of their power card!
