Publisher: Decision Games (I)
Iwo Jima, February 1945. A small volcanic island in the Pacific, covered in soft black ash and heavily defended. In D-Day at Iwo Jima you step into the boots of the American Marines and try to take the island step by step. The Japanese defence under General Kuribayashi is dug in deep and will not give up easily. Every move calls for thought and patience. This is a solo game, made for anyone who likes sitting alone at the table with a tough challenge. You command three Marine divisions against an enemy you never quite see coming. No dice are involved. Instead, it is all about choosing the right weapons, the right tactics and reading an opponent who keeps digging in again. Weakened positions can even grow strong again, so you are never finished. You can play short scenarios that recreate one part of the battle, or go all in on the big campaign that follows the whole story from start to finish. The box holds everything you need: a sturdy game board, hundreds of counters, event cards and clear player aids. Expect a long, absorbing session. A single game can easily fill a whole afternoon.
