The stars are almost right. In Arkham, Innsmouth and the halls of Miskatonic University, doom hangs in the air. Cthulhu is waking up, and that means we are all going to perish. But the big question is: whose downfall will be the most entertaining to watch? In Cthulhu Gloom you take charge of a small group of characters, and you are really not out to make them happy. Quite the opposite. You want your heroes to end up as miserable and insane as possible, preferably with a quick and gruesome death. Meanwhile you try to give your opponents' characters a pleasant and healthy life, because that earns them points they do not want at all. Whoever has suffered the most at the end wins. A wonderfully reversed contest, then, and one you can laugh about together. The fun lies in the transparent cards. You stack them on top of each other to change a character's traits, or to undo what another player just came up with. New in this game are the Story cards, which lie on the table from the start and reward you as soon as you meet their conditions, and the Transformation cards, which turn a character forever into something slimy and hideous. Exactly what you would expect in the world of Cthulhu. You can play Cthulhu Gloom on its own, or mix it with Gloom and its expansions.
