This is the Dutch-language edition. In Catan (formerly The Settlers of Catan) players try to become the dominant power on the island of Catan by building settlements, cities and roads.
Each turn dice are rolled to determine which resources the island produces. Players build by spending resources (sheep, wheat, wood, brick and ore). But watch out, your opponent can get in your way!
In the Netherlands, this popular trading game was voted Toy of the Year (Speelgoed van het Jaar). The game is fun for everyone thanks to the interaction, the touch of luck and the tactical options.
You start with 2 villages on a variable game board with fields, pastures, hills, mountains and forests. On your turn you roll 2 dice to determine who receives resources. That depends on the position of your villages. After that you may trade with the bank or with your fellow players, because you will not get every type of resource. And you do need them to build new villages, roads and cities. You can also buy development cards to carry out special actions. On top of that, a robber walks around and plunders some of the landscapes.
Villages and cities not only produce resources, they are also worth points. Development cards, the longest continuous route and the largest army bring in points too. Whoever is first to reach 10 points wins the game right away!
