This is the Dutch-language edition. In Bitoku, players take on the roles of Bitoku forest spirits on their path to transcendence, aiming to elevate themselves and become the next great spirit of the forest.

About the game

To do this, they will have the help of the yōkai, the kodamas and the various pilgrims who accompany them on their path. This is a hand management and engine building game with multiple paths to victory.

Players have yōkai represented by the cards that make up their hand. These must be placed in the right spots at the right moments to get the most out of the abilities they offer. On top of that, players can earn more yōkai cards for their deck during the game, which increases their play options and leads to a higher score. Each player also has three yōkai guardians (in the form of dice) that they can send to the great regions of the forest on the main board to gain all kinds of new options to play during the game. These options can be structures they build in certain parts of the forest, soul crystals that generate resources when certain actions are taken, and much more. Players also have the chance to help the mitamas, lost souls looking for redemption, by using the chinkon fireflies.

There really is a wide range of actions to take, and that is without counting the personal domain, where players can add an extra layer of strategy while managing the pilgrims. Pilgrims are followers of the player who set out on a journey of contemplation and reflection, and then share the experiences and knowledge they gain along the spiritual path with the Bitoku.
