Publisher: Dr. Finn's Games
The life of a monastery scribe is hard. Day in, day out you bend over thick books, copy page after page and say your prayers. But whoever works hard and stays loyal slowly wins the abbot's trust. In Biblios: Quill and Parchment you hunt for as many piety points as you can and show how devoted you are to monastic life. The game runs over eight days. On the first four days, all players roll their own dice at the same time. The dice show books, influence with the abbot and travel points. You may roll up to three times and decide for yourself what to do: keep everything, re-roll one die or try them all again. That way you collect books to copy, build up influence and send your novice out into the villages to do good deeds and find new books. In the last four days you spend that built-up influence to bid on tasks. This is a special mix: a roll-and-write game with auctions in it, and you really do play off one another. Just as in the original Biblios, the value of the books shifts during the game. Only at the end do you know which books are worth the most, and that keeps every choice exciting right up to the final day.
