The Last Spike

Soon a railway line will run all the way across the country, from St. Louis to Sacramento. But which route will the train take? You decide that together, tile by tile. In The Last Spike you all build one single railway, while everyone quietly tries to pocket the most money. Some cities end up nicely on the line, others get left out. That makes every game different. You hold four track tiles, each with a place and a price. On your turn you lay a piece of track and pay the cost. Are you the first to build next to a city? Then you get a free share in it. Short on cash? Sell a share to keep going. As soon as two cities are connected, the money flows in for everyone holding shares there. So watch carefully where you invest and when you strike. The player who closes the final gap between St. Louis and Sacramento gets a fat bonus of 20,000 dollars, and then the game ends. Whoever has the most dollars at that moment wins. An exciting game about timing, betting on the right city and acting just a bit sooner than the rest. Perfect for an evening around the table with friends or family.
