The year is 122 AD. The Roman Empire is at its peak. Emperor Hadrian no longer wages war, but builds cities and walls so that Rome's power will last for a long time to come. In the south of Britannia he has a wall raised, and next to it a new city must rise. Five of his most trusted men are given the task of building that city. But in the end only one of them will be named Praetor. In Praetor you step into the shoes of a Roman engineer. Together with the other players you build a beautiful city, while everyone secretly longs for the same honour. You manage your resources wisely, look for new sources and hire fresh workers. You build settlements to keep the population happy and honour the gods to win their favour. Will you give away your precious resources for Hadrian's wall? Then the emperor rewards you, and you come one step closer to the title. Each turn you place your workers on city tiles that were built earlier. That way you collect resources, morale, new workers or favour points. At the end of every turn you have to pay your workers, because otherwise the mood in the city drops. Your workers gradually gain experience and get better at their craft. The oldest ones eventually retire and give you extra points, but you keep paying them until the very end. A game full of choices, cooperation and a healthy dose of pride.
