Publisher: Decision Games (I)
It is spring 1864. General Nathaniel Banks marches along the Red River in Louisiana with a small army. His goal: to reach Shreveport, the Confederate capital of Louisiana. But the two armies advancing there work together poorly. That lets the Southerners focus their small force on one opponent at a time. At a crossroads near Mansfield, things go wrong for Banks. In reality his troops were scattered. But in Mansfield Crisis in the Pine Barrens 8 April 1864 you decide how the battle ends. This two-player game is about more than simply having the biggest army. The quality of your units counts for more than their number, and players who make good use of the tactics of the period are rewarded. Weakened troops can break and run, so you always need to keep reserves in hand. Your leaders give your units extra strength. The winner is the one who is in the right place at the right moment. Mansfield Crisis in the Pine Barrens 8 April 1864 uses the accessible QuickPlay version of the Musket & Saber system. That way you play a historical battle without endless rules, while still having to think hard about deployment, timing and the strengths and weaknesses of both armies. An evening of tension across the table, with an outcome entirely in your hands.
