The bank robbery was a success. You told the gang it would work! Now you and the rest of the crew lie low until things cool down. Most of the money is hidden and the rest has been laundered through various businesses in the city. Everything goes according to plan until the police get an anonymous tip. Inside the gang accusations start flying: there is a rat! Fingers are pointed and after a heated argument you decide to split up. While you are still free, it is time for an Escape Plan!
Before you know it, SWAT teams are closing off every route out of the city. Soon there will be no way out, but that has never stopped you before. If you really want to get away, you need a plan: a good plan, and one that lets you get back a fair share of the money, maybe a little more. After all, it is your plan, so why should you share your loot? You do all the thinking, don't you?
You will have to call on a few people you can trust, and there are not many left, and get the smaller gangs moving to cause enough commotion to keep the police busy. The officers who do not fall for it might still look the other way, but they will not do it for free. Disguises can help, but they do not fool everyone. Will you escape the city with the most money, or will the police seal off the city before you can get out?
In Escape Plan the players are the thieves, but each turn they can influence the actions of the police. The robbers move across a modular board and try to reach the best spots to recover their loot and escape the city with more money than the other thieves. The police try to thwart their escape plan, by force if needed. Players play cards to help their own escape and to slow the other players down. They take actions that let them move and use gangs, mules and informants during their escape attempt.
Escape Plan is a tactical game without direct conflict. The game has asymmetrical roles that are set by missions you can take on during play while you dodge the police. The players' roles as thieves are individual: every player for themselves. In the end, only the player who escapes with the most money wins.
