Set a course from Port Royal and hunt for the riches of the Spanish. In Brethren of the Coast you make two choices each turn that really matter. First you send one of your ships to a Spanish galleon or a settlement. Then you play a card to increase the loot on another target. But watch out: sometimes that card strengthens the Spanish defences instead. So all players compete for the best share of the treasure, while nobody knows at the start what there is to be won. Every captain starts with four doubloons. For one doubloon you may place a card face down, so your fellow pirates cannot see what you are planning. Do you hide the finest loot, or do you secretly help the Spanish to profit yourself? At the end you count the doubloons. The two players with the most treasure chests share all the doubloons spent on hidden cards during the game. All the other chests? They turn out to be empty. Can you really trust the other pirates? Will the Spanish attack the biggest fleet, or the smallest? There may be a pirate code, but of course you are and remain pirates. Together you beat the Spanish, but only one of you sails into the harbour laughing at the end.
