Hitster game rules
Hit star, who doesn't know it? In this game you test your knowledge of popular music by putting songs in the right place in a timeline. Whoever gets 10 songs right first wins.
With more than 300 of the biggest hits of the past 100 years, Hitster is the perfect party game for an evening of laughter, singing and, most importantly, no man-who-cares.

Ingredients of a successful evening Hitster
No interminable intro about what memories this recipe brings to us, just a list of supplies right away:
1. You need Hitster (duh). That can be the regular Hitster, Guilty Pleasures, Summer Party or Bingo!
2. One other person to play with; Hitster is most fun with 4 to 6 people;
3. The Hitster app that you use to scan the cards and Spotify Premium.
Why Spotify Premium? It just works best. You can get Spotify Premium for 1 month for free. Hitster also works with the free version, only you only hear 20 seconds of each song.

Can you play Hitster with Youtube, Apple Music, Deezer or another streaming service?
Yes you can, but then bombard one player as a DJ.
The DJ has to manually search for the song on the song card in the app you want to use instead of scanning the card with the Hitster app.

The Game
The app
Do you play 1 vs. 1 or team vs. team?
Choose whether you each play individually or compete against each other in teams. You can play Hitster with 2 to 10 players or 2 to 10 teams. The only limit is the number of Hitster tokens (more on that later).
Determine the level
Playing with Gerard Ekdom, Domien Veenstra or Mattie and Marieke? Nice!
High five them for me? And adjust the difficulty level for them, otherwise it will be a tough game for you! So you can set a different level for each player or team, that way everyone has a chance to win! These are the levels:
Original You just need to put the song in the right spot in your timeline. Do you know the title & artist? Then you will earn a Hitster token.
Pro Good spot in the timeline + name the title & artist. You cannot earn Hitster tokens.
Expert Good spot in the timeline, mention title & artist and mention the exact year. You cannot earn Hitster tokens.

Provide everyone with materials
Give each player or team one Hitster card with the year face up. This is the start of the timeline. Give everyone 2 Hitster tokens. Give Pro players 5 Hitster tokens, Expert players get 3.

Game play
Hitster goes clockwise. When it is your turn, do the following:
1. Grab a music card and scan the QR code with the Hitster app - or have the DJ do it.
2. Listen to the song, because yes... this speaks for itself I hope 🙂 .
3. Guess when the song was released and place the card in the right place in your music timeline. Do you play Pro or Expert? Then you have a little more to name here!
4. Deploy Hitster tokens! There they are! The HITSTER tokens add a strategic element to the game. You can use these tokens in three ways: -During your own turn: If you don't recognize the number, you can deploy 1 HITSTER token to skip this card and scan the next card. The token and card are placed back in the box.
-During an opponent's turn: Do you think a player is misplacing a card? Then shout "HITSTER!" before the card is turned over. Place your token in the position where you think the card belongs. If you are correct, you may keep the card and place it correctly on your timeline. Note: The first player to call "HITSTER" may place a token first.
-At any time: exchange 3 HITSTER tokens to place the top music card from the pile directly on your timeline correctly, without having to guess the release date.
5. Turn over the music card. Did you guess the year correctly? Then keep the music card and you're one step closer to winning. Not right? Oops, card gone. Did the person with a Hitster token get it right? Then the card goes to him/her.
6. Next! It is the next player's turn.
