What do you need for a successful Halli Galli session?
For your Halli Galli adventure, of course, you need the game itself (surprise!). That consists of a deck of cards with different fruits and a real bell. You'll also need some friends or family members who aren't afraid of some competition and possible bruises on their hands. The game works best with 2 to 6 players, but be warned: the more players, the more chaotic it gets;

Preparation: simpler than spreading a sandwich
The preparation of Halli Galli takes about 30 seconds. Place the bell in the center of the table, within reach of all players. Shuffle all the cards thoroughly and distribute them evenly among all the players. Everyone places their deck covered in front of them. Make sure everyone has their dominant hand free to hit that bell at lightning speed.
There is only one rule for holding your cards: you may not look at them! After all, that would be unfair, and we don't like cheaters at Halli Galli. Unless they don't catch us, of course.

This is how a turn proceeds:
Now comes the simple but addictive gameplay: in turn, each player turns over the top card of his covered pile and places it face-up on a personal pile in front of him. Pay close attention to what happens: each card shows a type of fruit (banana, strawberry, plum or lemon) in a quantity from 1 to 5.
The magic moment comes when the table shows EXACTLY five of the same fruits. It could be five bananas on one card, or perhaps three strawberries on one player and two on another. As soon as you spot five of the same fruits - MEPT ANYONE ON THAT BELL!
The fastest player wins all open cards from all players and adds them to the bottom of his deck. Now the game begins again with the player to the left of the one who last turned over a card.
But beware: those who call wrongly, such as those with four or six of the same fruit, pay a painful price. This overzealous clunker must cede to every other player one card from his covered pile. That hurts your chances as well as your hand!
